Chile:
The Land in Images
The original inahabitants of patagonia were the mapuche and
araucanian tribes the settled along the fertile valleys of
what is now modern day chile. To get a feel for the past,
and what life and land were like for these southern tribes
is still possible when touring the remote regions of southern
Patagonia. this photo essay was created by Marta
Zaleska for ancientchile, when she toured the arauco valley
with camera in hand. The result is not only a photo essay
on the country, but it demonstrates how much of the precolombian
past is still present in the culture of the people.
The Mapuche people of Araucania
A flash essay on the mapuche peaple and their environment.
These images add up to be some of the last images taken of
them before their way of life was greatly assimilated into
chilean culture byt the turn of the century. The voices that
echo from these images can still be seen in the faces of the
people today
